John A. Black, Jr.

John BlackFaculty Associate John A. Black, Jr. earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University in 1972. Upon graduation, he worked in the electronics industry as an engineer for Sperry Flight systems and Motorola, where he was responsible for the development of the VMEbus specification, which has been internationally standardized as ANSI/IEEE std 1014 and IEC 821. Upon completion of his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1984, John left Motorola to launch Open Systems Publishing, http://www.opensystems-publishing.com. In 1988 he authored a book titled The System Engineer’s handbook which was published by Academic Press. In 2003, John earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science, and has been serving on the ASU faculty since that time.
