Helen Burns

Helen BurnsHelen’s ASU career began at University Media Systems, the nonprint section of the library in 1990. After working at UMS for a year as a secretary admin, she took a job at KAET as an office specialist senior in the business office handling the purchasing, accounts payable, student employee payroll processing, property control, and supervising student workers and the front desk receptionist along with the on-call staff. After working at KAET for nine years, Helen took early retirement to run her husband’s business. Two years later she decided to come back to the University and took a job with the W. P. Carey School of Business in the Supply Chain Management department as an office specialist senior. Helen worked on class scheduling, room assignments, supply ordering and inventory, text book ordering, supervising front desk receptionist and student workers and assisting faculty with various projects. Helen was also the Ph.D. program coordinator’s assistant. After two years in SCM, Helen took a job with Computer Science Engineering Department as an office specialist senior. When CSE moved to the Brickyard, Helen was the only front office staff and assisted in the hiring and training of our current front office staff members. Helen was promoted to accountant associate in 2006 and took on additional accounting duties.

Helen now works mainly with the CIDSE accounts. She works on monthly reconciliation of all IIA, RID, state and local accounts. Helen processes document approval on expenditures, including the Advantage approvals and travel approvals. She assists senior accountants with projects, research, effort reporting and problem solving; and processes fund transfers and redistributions as needed. She also assists office staff and the business operations manager as needed, including purchasing or A/P problem resolution. Helen sets up new accounts and processes paperwork for account signers, handles all department invoicing and deposits, Intel web invoicing and Foundation disbursements on line.
