Feng Ju named SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer

Feng Ju, an assistant professor of industrial engineering in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, was recently named an Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer by SME (formerly called the Society of Manufacturing Engineers).

Ju’s research focuses on stochastic modeling and control under uncertainty for complex manufacturing systems, aiming to solve problems faced by the modern manufacturing era. His goal is to develop a novel decision-making framework to enable smart and timely decisions for production systems using real-time data.

“These challenges often require a transdisciplinary approach, and my work is motivated by pushing the frontier of complex system modeling and real-time production control and automation, investigating their fundamental principles and establishing effective and efficient decision tools for industry partners,” says Ju.

His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and companies such as Intel and Local Motors.

In addition to SME, Ju is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

“The award means the recognition of our work in smart manufacturing,” says Ju. “Thanks to all my colleagues, students, and industry partners.”
