  • All Prereq Override Requests need to be submitted electronically including email approvals and transcripts if applicable from above.
  • Ground campus students may not request overrides to ASU Online courses.
  • ASU Online students may not request overrides to ground campus courses.
  • SCAI degree seeking students will not be provided an approval to any prerequisite override requests to gain entry to courses if you have not completed all stated course prerequisite requirements unless you have been assigned the course to fulfill a graduate program deficiency.
  • SCAI students seeking overrides into non-SCAI engineering courses should work with their advisors to submit override requests rather than submitting them directly.
  • Non-degree students may not take over 12 undergraduate upper division credit hours of coursework or more than 12 graduate level credits. It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of this policy. Please see the ASU Catalog for more information. • Complete the Override Form: click here
    • Screenshot of email with professor approval.
    • Submit both items here

How long does it take for my override request to be processed?
    • Undergrad: Overrides will be reviewed as they come in. Overrides may be issued right away or at different times during the semester depending on the needs of our SCAI students in these courses. The latest an override will be issued is one week before the start of the semester.
    • Graduate: Approved requests for CSE and SER course overrides will be granted one week prior to the start of the semester. Approval requests for CEN and IEE courses will be granted on an ongoing basis.

I received override approval, but am receiving an error message that there are no available seats.

Prerequisite overrides do not override course caps or course reserves. Students need to wait for available seats before using the override. Overrides may only be used once, so if you attempt an override when a seat isn’t available then you will lose your override request.

Can a Software Engineering graduate student submit override requests to non-approved classes?

An override request is not required for any CSE courses on the Approved CSE 500-level classes list. We will not approve SE MS students to take additional CSE graduate courses, since they will not count on the IPOS

I am a non-SCAI RAS MS or DSAE MS student, do I need to submit an override for CSE core courses or courses approved as elective or concentration options for my program?

Non-SCAI students do not need overrides to enroll in required core courses. However, they do need to submit override requests for courses they intend to take for elective or concentration requirements. Students do not need faculty approval if they are submitting requests for approved courses.

Does professor approval mean I am guaranteed a seat in the class?

No. If the class is full, you must wait until there is a seat available to register by the add/drop date. We do not add seats to closed classes.

Will you approve overrides for time conflicting classes?

No, we do not approve any time conflicting overrides.

I submitted an override, but it was rejected saying I need to submit required items.
  • Any overrides missing items will not be approved. Your override request is restarted when you re-submit items.

Follow directions carefully:

  • Complete the Override Form: click here
  • Screenshot of email with professor approval.
  • Submit both items here
I made an error with an override I just submitted, can I submit another one?

Please do not submit duplicate override requests. You will not be able to edit your override request once it is submitted.

Can I submit override requests for the same course but different sections?

Please do not submit overrides for the same course even though they are different sections. We ask that you wait for a response to your override request before submitting new documentation.

When we issue overrides we generally will issue them so you can enroll in any section of that class with an open seat rather than for a specific section unless it is a special topic section.

What about overrides for Non-SCAI students?

Approved requests for CSE, SER, DSE course overrides will be granted one week prior to the start of the semester at the latest. Approval requests for CEN and IEE courses will be granted on an ongoing basis depending on seat availability.

See our academic calendar for dates and deadlines: https://registrar.asu.edu/academic-calendar

Can I do an override request to take an online course while also taking ground campus courses?
